Vela Barcelona came into being in 1992 as the Barcelona Municipal Sailing Club. Originally designed as part of the sports facilities built by the city council to mark the Barcelona`92 Olympic Games, it was subsequently made available to all sailing enthusiasts.

Since then, Vela Barcelona has endeavoured to introduce the public at large to the pleasure of sailing, in addition to offering its facilities to those that already partake in the sport. Vela Barcelona makes sailing accessible to everyone. We boast a broad range of activities that cater for individuals, companies and organisations as well as schools.

Vela Barcelona is managed by the Catalan Sailing Federation and is a member of the network of schools recognised by the Federation as a Catalan Sailing School (Escola Catalana de Vela); our staff therefore adhere to the standard teaching methodology established by the Catalan Sailing School.

The project activities under the concept of Accessible Sailing, Sailing for Everyone at the Municipal Sailing Club are undertaken within the framework of a collaboration agreement between the Catalan Sailing Federation (FCV), the Catalan Cerebral Palsy Sports Federation (FECPC), the Catalan Sports Federation for the Physically Disabled (FCEDF) and the Catalan Sports Federation for the Blind (FCEC). Projects are also carried out in conjunction with the Catalan Sports and Leisure Federation for the Intellectually Disabled (ACELL) and the Catalan Sports Federation for the Deaf.

The activities under Accessible Sailing, Sailing for Everyone are organised all year round. Today, many of them are implemented thanks to the support of the Guttmann Institute and the Catalan Cerebral Palsy Federation/Cruyff Foundation, which afford more than two hundred people the opportunity to become acquainted with sailing for the first time.

There are currently many families that come to practise the sport, from sea ?baptisms? to hour-long lessons spread over a term.

All our staff have been specially trained to oversee the activities under Accessible Sailing, Sailing for Everyone, making the Municipal Sailing Club a veritable pioneer for technical improvement and innovation in the sport of sailing.
